The Piccirilli Brothers, famous Italian-American sculptors of the 20th century On the Threshold of the Inferno, Woodlawn Cemetery, 1903 Lions Patience & Fortitude, New York Public Library, 1911 Lincoln Memorial, 1922
FEATURED PROJECT - THE PICCIRILLI BROTHERS

The Lions of the New York Public Library. The frieze at Rockefeller Center. The Lincoln Memorial. These are just a few of the sculptures whose existence we owe to those masterful, often forgotten sculptors, the Piccirilli brothers. Observation of their craftsmanship imparts messages of values and aesthetics, community and prosperity. Their works lie scattered around the nation, evidence of how deeply enmeshed Italian-Americans are with the history of America. And yet, their legacy is often passed over.

Now, in the new documentary The “Italian Factor” by Eduardo Montes-Bradley, sponsored by the Columbus Citizens Foundation (ready for viewing at the end of 2024), you can experience the story of the Piccirilli, and how their Italian imparted cultural values were integrated into the American national identity through the art of sculpture. You can watch the trailer for this documentary above.
